scorpions

I think the thing is, spelling makes a big difference to me, in its way. I like words to stay separate in my mind, but enjoy how much /meanings/ of words can shift. So I only really like puns that clamor for declamation. The homographic ones (especially the /forced/ homographic ones) just seem, somehow, confused. Which is also why I forget that there can be more than one person with the same name.

thanks to the Spanish

I guess I can accept can't (in myself) as a condition, but not as an essential quality. And that seems, actually, like a nice way of looking at it, don't you think?, though it does seem to keep backing me into corners...

halfway there

I wonder if there's a connection between Kant's theory of humor (chickens), Bergson's theory (laughter as corrective injection of animation), changing definitions of irony (in so far as dramatic irony necessitates a third party, or just some kind of knowing "other"), and a cultural internalization of relativistic values and the primacy of subjective experience.

also, remember to try to understand subjective entailment.

stay tuned.

internalities

maybe I can't say no because I can't say yes emphatically enough

lunch

I just almost said, "Can you imagine what it must be like if you really honestly believe that the best attention you can get is by association?" and then I thought for a second.

and also, I think I'm not at all unreasonable, it's just no one understands areasonable.

a little bit of pomp

I've been hard at work on a little project with a few of my closest, and it's finally time to let you all in on the secret. We have a Christmas band! And a MySpace page! I'll be putting up tracks in about a week (which is six weeks before Christmas, if you can believe it).

More importantly, we'll be sending around honest pretty paper invitations for the Christmas in July in December luau on the 23rd, so if you'd like one, you should take this opportunity to send me your mailing address. (Invitation recipients who politely decline will receive a cd of the set as a consolation prize.)

What people are saying:

"Fred! I bought a ukulele! And I'm learning Christmas songs! Isn't that hilarious?!" - me, three months ago

"I like how Christmas isn't so much an occasion as this awkward circumstance we have to live through." - first person subjected to double-speed ukulele rendition of weepy indie boy song

"Mrs. Claus, comb as musical instrument, how can I even think about missing this?" - friend flying in from LA for the party

"You make me want to make out ... in a sort of general way." - understudy for warthog in traveling Broadway version of The Lion King

Also, if you have any leads on reasonably priced stretch velvet, I'd be very appreciative.

yours,
Kate
